Saying thank you is a simple thing, but it can make someone's day. At this time of year, there are many things you can do in the classroom to celebrate Thanksgiving while teaching gratitude and thankfulness.
Thanksgiving is the perfect time to introduce, or reinforce, the active practice of gratitude in your classroom day-to-day. Classroomscreen has many features that can help you do just that, through themed brain breaks, board games and other SEL activities.
We have just added a special activity for Thanksgiving in our Library, free for you to use. In this simple game, students need to list three things they are thankful for, with one being a lie. One by one, students come up to the board (selected by the Randomizer) to add them to the Poll widget - or you can type them in yourself if you wish for them to say seated.
This game not only allows students to reflect on what they are thankful for this year, but it also encourages them to share and engage with their classmates about the topic.
We have partnered with our friends at Mood Magic Music to bring you a special edition of our Let's practice gratitude template. Same questions, whole new fall vibe!
In this activity, students have three categories they can choose from; personal gratitude, school life and community. Then, there are 5 different ways they can answer the question - revealed in another Randomizer! The background - sourced from Mood Magic Music - is animated and has a calming lofi playlist that will set the tone of the activity perfectly.
If you like the look of this activity, you will love our collection of SEL activities. You can explore them all here.
If you are looking for a quick mindful pause between curriculum-based learning, then we have the perfect one for you. We've also made a quick fall-themed version of one of our most popular templates - Brain break menu - that features two calming activities.
This screen includes two different brain breaks to choose from; one is a gentle tracing exercise when you want a quiet moment, and the other encourages focus and is more vocal through saying words on the beat.
Sometimes you just want something on hand, already incorporated into your lesson plan. There are several widgets that are ideal for this, have you tried them yet?
- Poll widget: This widget is great for exit tickets - simply pop one onto the screen and ask your students what they liked about the lesson or something they are thankful for today. No extra screen required!
- Stickers: Bring a positive vibe into your lesson through adding a 'thank you' sticker to your screen, or by adding a post-it sticker with a thankful message.
- Timetable: Using the List function, you can add a couple of things you are thankful for about your class and select a couple of students at the end of class to share theirs too!
We hope this guide helps you celebrate the Thanksgiving season without much stress - from our team to yours, thank you for inspiring us every day!
