Connect the dots

Turn shared goals into small-group action plans in a fun way!

About this template

In this activity, students connect their name to a goal they care about most, forming small teams with classmates who chose the same goal. Each team then creates an action plan to help the class reach it. It's a fun way to kick off the year and let students take ownership of goals they chose themselves.

How it works

Students are presented with a list of class goals on the left side of the screen and their own names on the right, with the goals covering a mix of community and learning aims. Using the Randomizer, the teacher selects a student, who draws a line connecting their name to the goal they'd most like to help with using the Annotation feature. This continues until everyone is connected, and if a goal is already full, students simply choose their second option. Once all the lines are drawn, each cluster of names becomes a team.

On the second screen, teams gather with the classmates who chose their goal and create a simple action plan together. They’ll think about a few small steps they'll commit to over the coming weeks. After the plans are made, each team shares theirs with the class, so everyone leaves with a goal they helped choose and a group to work on it with.
